Android perspectives in 2013

2012 is the year that saw Android operating system rule the smartphone market. This OS from Google has been a subject to rapid development and has been adopted by a majority of smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung and HTC. Already the social media is abuzz with rumors and speculations that android is set to release some new iterations. Below are some of the changes to expect from Android systems in 2013.

An increase in screen size and resolution
In the past few years a screen size of 4 inches or more was largely unheard of and was even regarded as a pipe dream by many. However the release of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 redefined the Android race and even set higher targets for its rivals. Motorola on the other hand also pushed the limits by developing a 4.3 inch smartphone with a body size equivalent to that of a 3.5 inch phone- edge to edge display. Already some reports are suggesting that some Android vendors are already prototyping and testing devices with a 5 inch 1080p display. The Droid DNA from HTC is one such example and this has been made possible by new iterations like Jelly bean which support high resolution displays. The only challenge to this kind of display is battery life and hopefully this will be resolved in 2013.

More processor cores
The days of dual core smartphones are numbered and will soon be rendered obsolete by the newly released quad core processor powered smartphones. With Android set to release high end devices powered by Qualcomm or NVidia processors in 2013, these quad core processor smartphones might even replace computers in performing ordinary computing tasks. The memory and RAM of Android devices increase with the number of processor cores. The processor speeds are tipped to go as high as 1.5 to 2.0GHz while a RAM of 2GB will be the standard. Fixed batteries are also becoming the norm with some manufacturers and external storage is slowly being phased out, meaning internal storage capacities of 32GB and 64GB for the high end will be the trend in 2013.

One device around the world
A number of manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung have already adopted a single form factor for their products across the globe. Basically means that you get the same product with the same specs regardless of the place you purchase from be it an online store in UAE or a wireless carriers such as Verizon or AT&T in the U.S.

Android Venturing to New Territories
The Samsung galaxy camera which entirely runs on an Android platform took many by surprise. Other camera manufacturers such as Nikon and Polaroid are working on the same; therefore expect to see new “Smart” cameras in the market this year. Hardware vendors are also looking to capitalize on the Android market and there are rumors and speculations of new micro-waves and washing machines entirely built on an Android OS.

Google I/O Major Releases
Android fans should expect to see a number of new devices in the stores in 2013. Currently various manufacturers are holding press conferences announcing the release of new product and Samsung Galaxy S4 is one such product to look forward to in 2013.
